Despite the controversies that has befallen the NFL recently, the sport continues to flourish. And for every game played on the big screen, another 35 million people play behind the scenes. The fantasy game has been around for decades, but since the advent of the internet, it’s seen a surge of popularity with public versions available on a number of different sites. It’s become so popular that the NFL even wants fantasy football to be part of elementary school curriculum. And according to Forbes, the money flowing through fantasy football has surpassed the annual revenue of the NFL itself.
In 2009, Reebok launched an advertising campaign for fantasy football – filming a series of superstar players performing hard-to-believe stunts. The campaign was only aired on the NFL Network, but it didn’t stop the videos from spreading online. The campaign was wildly popular, with discussions of did-he-or-didn’t-he and aspiring football players attempting the stunts themselves.
