In this weekly Throwback Thursday series, we surface memorable TV advertising spots from days past – ones that made us laugh, inspired us, or sparked an affinity for a brand.
It’s official: next year’s Academy Awards will be hosted by Neil Patrick Harris. The actor is no stranger to hosting duties – he’s hosted the Emmy Awards twice, as well as the Tony Awards four times. He also performed the opening ceremony at this year’s Oscar awards, hosted by Ellen DeGeneres.
Despite his expertise in emcee duties, Harris has quite the act to follow – last year’s Oscars were the most watched Oscars of all time, drawing an audience of 43 million viewers.
“It is truly an honor and a thrill to be asked to host this year’s Academy Awards,” Harris said in a statement. “I grew up watching the Oscars and was always in such awe of some of the greats who hosted the show. To be asked to follow in the footsteps of Johnny Carson, Billy Crystal, Ellen DeGeneres, and everyone else who had the great fortune of hosting is a bucket list dream come true.” He also shared a video of himself crossing off ‘host the Oscars’ in an impressive bucket list.
To wish NPH luck, we remember when he starred in this funny spot for Heineken Light this year, in his characteristic dry humor and typical uniform – an impeccably tailored suit.
